Tackling Racism & Health Inequalities in Upstate New York State with New Health Equity Awards | WIVT


August 19, 2021: Excellus BlueCross BlueShield recognizes structural racism as a driver of health inequality and an obstacle to its goal of health equity, and invites nonprofits to apply for Health Equity Awards of up to $ 30,000 each to fund health and wellness programs addressing racial and ethnic health inequalities in upstate New York.

The application period starts on Tuesday, August 17th and ends at midnight, Friday, September 17th.

“By investing in communities like this, we strive to improve access to health care, promote specific health outcomes, and support organizations in our community that share our mission.”

Fight Racism Health Inequalities via the Health Equity Award

Nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organizations in the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield service area are invited to apply. Proposals must include clear, well-defined goals for reducing health inequalities and improving health equity in communities of color, especially in black and Latin American communities, where historical and current racism and discrimination continue to increase the burden of health inequalities and social disadvantage.

Organizations are required to indicate how the funding will measurably help improve health equity and ethnicity outcomes.

The categories for health equity include:

  • Improving the physical and mental health of the community
  • Reducing social inequalities in health care
  • Ensure access to health care

Proposals with detailed scope, objectives, justification for support and measures will be given the greatest attention. The winners will be announced at the end of October.
