"African American health matters"

Blood Pressure Spotlight: Bre Minniefield will present “African American health matters” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at The Lumbar as part of “Discoveries in the Making” (Univ. of Alabama). The program gives graduate students and postdoctoral researchers an opportunity to share their exciting new discoveries with the public in Birmingham.

Summary: One out of three American adults is suffering from high blood pressure, with African Americans having the highest rate of uncontrolled blood pressure. Bre Minniefield is investigating the genetics variants that may explain why African Americans have a wide range of health responses to high blood pressure medication.
